Meet annabel

Welcome! My name is Annabel Ward and I am a fully qualified, experienced psychotherapeutic counsellor. As an integrative therapist, I use a variety of approaches and modalities to support you. I understand that everyone has a unique story, so I tailor my work to your individual needs.


I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within the BACP ethical framework to ensure that I practise to the highest professional standards. 


My path to becoming a counsellor was shaped by a strong belief in the power of connection and the importance of feeling truly seen and heard. I’ve always been drawn to the resilience people show in the face of life's challenges and how, with the right support, they can uncover new perspectives, navigate difficulties, and move forward with greater confidence and clarity. For me, counselling is about creating a supportive, compassionate space where you can explore your experiences without fear of judgement. I became a counsellor because I want to walk alongside you on your journey – supporting you to find greater self-awareness, self-acceptance, and the strength to shape your own future.


I studied languages at Oxford University, driven by a fascination with how people communicate across cultures, experiences and emotions. Before retraining as a therapist, I spent many years working in PR and Communications. That experience deepened my understanding of how we express ourselves, how we're shaped by the stories we tell, and how important it is to feel heard. Now, as a therapist, I bring that lifelong interest in language, connection and meaning into my work with clients. 


Over the years, I have gained valuable experience as a therapeutic counsellor working with a broad range of issues and supporting clients from diverse backgrounds. As well as my private practice, I offer bereavement counselling at St. Catherine’s hospice, Crawley. I also volunteered as a bereavement counsellor at St. Raphael’s hospice in Cheam, London, for two years. 


Having grown up in vibrant South London, I now live in the peaceful countryside of Forest Row, where the natural surroundings of the Ashdown Forest provide me with a sense of calm and clarity. The forest offers me a space to reflect, recharge, and connect with nature, helping me stay grounded and present. It’s a place where I can draw inspiration and find balance, which deeply influences the way I work and approach life.

Everyone is unique, and your counselling journey will reflect that. I believe you are the expert on your own life, with a personal history and story that is entirely your own. My role is to provide a safe, supportive space for you to explore your thoughts and emotions and discover the answers within yourself.


I believe we all have the capacity to grow and change, regardless of age or circumstance. Through empathy, authenticity, and acceptance, I will support you in gaining a deeper understanding of your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. Rather than offering advice or telling you what to do, I will work with you to explore the changes you feel will benefit you.
